The Lions’ Den

This morning I was led to Daniel 6; the story of Daniel in the lions’ den. I’ve heard the story all of my life but I’m learning to read the bible differently and learning to pray that God will show me what I’m supposed to learn from passages read.

King Darius had decreed that nobody should pray to any god or human being except him for thirty days. Daniel did what he had always done and continued praying to the one true God three times a day. When they caught him praying, the king had him thrown into the den. Can you imagine the faith that Daniel had to have had in that moment?!

After sealing the door of the den, the king did not sleep that night. “At the first light of dawn, the king got up and hurried to the lions’ den. 20 When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished voice, ‘Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?”

Daniel cried out that HIS GOD, the one true God, had shut the mouths of the lions. When King Darius saw Daniel had been unharmed he said about God: “He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth.”

How great is our God! I’m so thankful that He is always near and a very present help in trouble. It doesn’t matter what I face I know that I can cry out in faith, trusting He will help me because He is the great I AM!

Trust Him to shut the mouths of lions and conquer the giants you might be facing!

Take a moment and listen to Mercy Me’s song “You Are I Am.”

Exodus 3:14 God said to Moses, ‘I am who I am.This is what you are to say to the Israelites: “I am has sent me to you.”’

Isaiah 46:4 Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”

Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
