Living By Faith

“Living by faith in Jesus above,
Trusting, confiding in His great love;
From all harm safe in His sheltering arm,
I’m living by faith and feel no alarm.”

I’ve had these old hymn lyrics going through my mind for a couple of days now and it’s funny, I can still hear the choir, from the church I attended as a child, singing the chorus. I can hear the piano, the Choir Director and all parts singing in harmony. The choir sang it with confidence and the sound from it protruded through the walls of the church out into the parking lot where neighboring homes could hear the words. However, most of those neighboring homes were empty because their residents were within the church building. Sadly, things are different now.  Many people no longer attend church like they once did and many people are turning away from religion altogether.

It’s heartbreaking when you hear a loved one say they no longer believe in God – especially when you know that person had a calling on their life. The enemy has a way of getting into minds and building barriers between people and God and once he’s given an inch, he takes a mile.

What do you do when you know those barriers are between your loved ones and God? You pray. You pray hard and then you pray some more. You intercede for those people, and you have faith! I’m reminded of the story of the Walls of Jericho. The wall was a barrier but in faith, Joshua and the army marched for seven days. On the seventh day, they shouted and gave a war cry. At God’s command, the wall came down.

Our prayers are our war cry against the enemy! Imagine what can happen when you have faith in God to break down the wall around your loved one’s heart. God can remove all barriers that satan has tried to keep in place, but it takes us petitioning Him to do so and having faith that He will. God has the power to change hearts and minds.

We have to continue praying. Don’t give up if you don’t see an immediate change. God moves in His timing, not ours. Trust His plan and remember…just a little faith can move mountains.

Matthew 17:20 Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Mark 11:24 “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
