You Need Only Be Still

Moses spoke profound words when the Israelites were in a rough spot. The enemy was closing in, they were worried and losing hope. “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Today those words are still true. How many times do we try to fight our own battles only to be surrounded by the enemy, causing us to lose sight of where we’re headed?

When the attacks begin, pray and “be still.”

Some versions of this verse say “you need only be silent.” When we’re silent we have no choice but to listen and hear the things around us. When we listen, we’ll hear God’s voice and His direction. Whatever we face, when we follow His guidance, ‘all things work together for good.’

Hillary Scott wrote lyrics that I love:
“You’re parting waters
Making a way for me
You’re moving mountains that I don’t even see
You’ve answered my prayer before I even speak
All You need for me to be is still”

God parted the waters for the Israelites to cross and then drowned Pharaoh’s army.

God hasn’t changed. He’s the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He will fight our battles and make a way for us. If we’ll pay attention, He’ll teach us and grow our faith in the process.
