The Encounter

“True worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers that the Father seeks.” John 4:23

When the Samaritan woman found Jesus at the well and He asked her for a drink, she had no idea her life was about to change. As she continued talking to Him, He took her to a different level. He went from speaking of a literal well to a spiritual well.

“Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

After He had her attention, He told her ‘everything she ever did.’ Is it possible at that moment conviction in her heart began?

She said, “I know the Messiah is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you – I am he.”

She had just encountered Jesus! (3)

Imagine how she felt, knowing she had just met the Savior of the world – face to face!

The Bible doesn’t specifically state the woman’s heart was changed but I feel it somewhat implies it when it says she left her things behind and told others about Jesus. She wanted them to encounter Him as well and because of her testimony, many more became believers.

When we worship in Spirit and in truth, we’re worshipping with the very core of our being and engaging our whole heart because we know He is holy and is worthy to be praised. And, as scripture states, that’s what the Father seeks from worshipers.

The woman at the well didn’t show up that day expecting an encounter with the Savior, but she got one and it forever changed her.

In every moment we let go and truly worship, we too have an encounter that has the potential to forever change us!

Are we worshiping like HE expects and like the Samaritan woman, are we sharing our testimonies so that others might believe and encounter Him as well?
