Darkness and the Light

If you’ve ever sat in the stillness of dawn you’ve noticed that light fills the sky a little at a time. It creeps into the darkness slowly casting a haze on the Earth. Then, out of nowhere, the birds begin to sing, the light is much brighter than just moments before, and you have the fullness of the sunrise in front of you.

As I sat in the quiet, listening and watching this morning, it occurred to me that this is much like life in the light of God. We walk around so long in darkness, not recognizing it’s His love that lights our way a little at a time. Then, out of nowhere, we hear Him calling us, drawing us into His marvelous light and see where He has lit our path all along.

But, just because we become followers of Christ doesn’t mean our lives will be void of trouble.

I’ve not written in a while because I’ve been in a weird place and finding words that serve as encouragement to others are hard to come by here. It’s a place where disappointment, confusion, and questions have thrived; a place where struggles abound, a place I’d rather not be.

I’ve heard it said, “When you aren’t close to God, who moved?”

Me. I moved.

In the midst of all that disappoint, confusion and struggle, I failed at having my quiet time. I failed at daily putting on my armor. Having left that door cracked, the enemy slung it wide open and began to beat me down.

Isn’t he sly in how he works? He’s laid heaviness and bitterness on me and I’ve been walking around in a period of near darkness.

Thankfully, God didn’t leave me, He was just waiting on me. Even though my path seemed only dimly lit, He was there.

The Bible clearly states “God is not the author of confusion” and “see to it that no root of bitterness springs up.”

So today, that stops. I’ve called it like it is and I’ve rebuked this spiritual attack.

The light of God has once again cast a haze in my world. I will push through and I will stand in the fullness and light of Him. He’s calling me out of the darkness.

“All it takes is one spark to burn. All it takes is one voice to be heard. Awaken this heart to yearn, And I will run with fire.”

1 Corinthians 14:13 For God is not a God of confusion but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.

Hebrews 12:15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
